President Hu inspects south China island

HAIKOU, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has inspected south China's island province of Hainan, investigating the implementation of the country's 12th Five-Year Plan and the province's reform and development.

Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited the countryside and local enterprises on Friday and Saturday after attending the BRICS Leaders Meeting in Sanya and the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia.

The BRICS groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The non-government and non-profit Boao Forum for Asia, founded by 28 nations in 2001, has become an important platform for discussions on key topics in Asia and the world.

President Hu calls for deepening cooperation between mainland, Taiwan

BOAO, Hainan, April 15 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Friday called on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to continue increasing mutual trust and deepening cooperation to create more favorable conditions for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

Hu was speaking to Frederick Chien, top advisor of the Taiwan-based Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, who headed a delegation to the 2011 annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held in the southern island province of Hainan. Full story

Hu stresses world peace, stability at BRICS summit

SANYA, Hainan, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao called for joint efforts to maintain world peace and stability at the BRICS summit Thursday morning in Sanya, saying that peace and stability form the prerequisite and foundation for development.

Hu said all countries should abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and bring into full play the central role of the United Nations and its Security Council in "peace keeping, peace making and peace building. Full story

Hu calls for stronger partnership among BRICS members

SANYA, Hainan, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao urged BRICS countries to strengthen partnership for common development at the bloc's summit in Sanya on Thursday.
