Chinese premier to chat with Internet users

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will hold an online chat with Internet users around the country and overseas on Sunday, the third such talk ahead of the plenary session of China's top legislature.

Wen will answer questions among those raised by netizens at www.xinhuanet.com, the official site of the Xinhua News Agency.

The chat scheduled for 9 a.m. (Beijing time) will be lively shown on the central government's website (www.gov.cn) and www.xinhuanet.com in video, picture and text.

It will be the third time for the premier to hold such a discussion before the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, convenes its plenary session in March.

Wen jumped in his first ever online chat on Feb. 28, 2009 at the two sites, receiving questions from nearly 300,000 netizens and mobile phone users ranging from unemployment, wealth gap, social justice to democracy.

In last year's chat on Feb. 27, Wen pledged that the government would step up efforts to rein in soaring property prices and manage inflation expectations.

Chinese Premier stresses social progress

BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has underscored the importance of progress in the science, education, culture, health and sports fields.

Chinese premier seeks opinions on gov't work report, economic blueprint

BEIJING, Feb.11 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from different sectors have given feedback on drafts of the government work report and China's economic and social development blueprint for the next five years, the State Council, China's cabinet, said Friday.

Premier Wen Jiabao chaired five seminars from Jan. 20 to 27, at which representatives of various sectors of society were invited to voice their views on the documents, according to a State Council statement. Full story

Chinese Premier visits farmers, workers to extend Spring Festival greetings

HEFEI, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has visited farmers and workers in Dabieshan Mountain area, an old revolutionary base in east China's Anhui Province, to extend new year greetings ahead of the Spring Festival, which falls on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Wen went to the area's Jinzhai County, once an important Red Army revolutionary base, to learn about the local economic and social development situation. Full story

Chinese Premier visits top complaints organ, urges efforts to better address public complaints

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- During a rare visit to China's top complaints department Monday, Premier Wen Jiabao asked officials to be responsible and dedicated to addressing people's complaints, to create conditions for the public to criticize and supervise the government.

Braving the winter freeze, Wen visited the State Bureau for Letters and Calls, the central level department dealing with petitions, in south Beijing Monday afternoon. Full story
